Tailored Engagement Time
Specialist one-to-one engagement for your loved one living with dementia in a care facility
We all know how important engagement is for quality of life. Being engaged in a meaningful activity empowers us, gives us a sense of belonging, and calms us in times of distress.
When dementia enters the picture, however, finding ways to engage can become challenging. What once worked may no longer feel right, and well-intended activities can sometimes be met with refusal or frustration.
That's why I'm offering tailored engagement time for your people living with dementia in a care home. Sessions are tailored to their unique history, preferences and abilities, creating moments of connection, comfort and joy.
As a Psychology MSc graduate, PAC Certified Independent Consultant, and trained in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, I draw on both my training and my own experience as a former caregiver and activities leader. This helps me adapt communication, activities and pacing to meet your loved one exactly where they are.
Why the person living with dementia chooses this service
For many people living with dementia, having someone visit regularly can bring a sense of familiarity, companionship, and meaningful connection. These visits create opportunities to share enjoyable moments, engage in comforting activities, and experience a sense of purpose and belonging in everyday life.
Sessions are designed to support the person’s remaining strengths, interests, and abilities through meaningful engagement tailored to who they are. Activities are adapted to their pace and preferences, helping promote confidence, enjoyment, connection, and emotional well-being.
Sometimes, it can also feel nice to spend time with someone outside of family or care staff. Someone neutral who can bring a new dynamic, different conversations, and opportunities for connection without the expectations that can sometimes come with everyday care routines.
Why families choose this service
Placing a loved one in a care home often comes with ongoing emotions — guilt, worry, or feeling like you're not doing "enough." Some families visit daily, which can become emotionally exhausting. They may also run out of ideas for what to say or do. Others want to visit more but are limited by distance, work or health. As a result, they primarily rely on staff updates for reassurance.
This service provides:
-
Regular, meaningful one-to-one time for your loved one
-
Simple, practical ideas for what works during your visits
-
Strategies to make visits feel more connected
-
Person-centred updates for families who can't visit often
-
Online shareable photo album capturing your loved one's special moments
What happens in sessions
Each session focuses on:
-
Building trust and emotional safety
-
Conversation, reminiscence and self-expression
-
Enjoyable, achievable activities (music, sensory items, creative tasks, gentle stimulation)
-
Physical activities and games adapted to their abilities (gentle movement, ball games, seated exercises)
Over time, this can help reduce distress, ease boredom or loneliness, and support emotional and physical well-being.
Important Note
This service is not intended to replace the care provided by staff. Care teams in residential settings do an incredible job supporting residents and keeping them safe and comfortable. Having worked in care facilities in both Switzerland and the United States, I have seen firsthand the dedication, compassion, and hard work that go into supporting each person, often around the clock.
Care staff regularly provide one-to-one support during important moments such as mealtimes, getting up, personal care, and bedtime. At the same time, you may wish for your loved one to have additional time for meaningful engagement and connection. Because staff also have many responsibilities, this extra time is not always available.
My service is designed to complement the care your loved one already receives by offering additional one-to-one engagement, meaningful activities, and personalised support — helping to enrich daily life while working alongside the care already in place.
