Tailored Engagement Time

Specialist one-to-one engagement for your loved one living with dementia in a care facility

We all know how important engagement is for quality of life. Being engaged in a meaningful activity empowers us, gives us a sense of belonging, and calms us in times of distress.

When dementia enters the picture, however, finding ways to engage can become challenging. What once worked may no longer feel right, and well-intended activities can sometimes be met with refusal or frustration.

That's why I'm offering tailored engagement time for your loved one living in a care home. Sessions are tailored to their unique history, preferences and abilities, creating moments of connection, comfort and joy.

As a Psychology MSc graduate, PAC Certified Independent Consultant, and trained in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, I draw on both my training and my own experience as a former caregiver and activities leader. This helps me adapt communication, activities and pacing to meet your loved one exactly where they are.

Why families choose this service

Placing a loved one in a care home often comes with ongoing emotions — guilt, worry, or feeling like you're not doing "enough." Some families visit daily, which can become emotionally exhausting. They may also run out of ideas for what to say or do. Others want to visit more but are limited by distance, work or health. As a result, they primarily rely on staff updates for reassurance.

This service provides:

  • Regular, meaningful one-to-one time for your loved one

  • Simple, practical ideas for what works during your visits

  • Strategies to make visits feel more connected

  • Person-centred updates for families who can't visit often

  • Online shareable photo album capturing your loved one's special moments

What happens in sessions

Each session focuses on:

  • Building trust and emotional safety

  • Conversation, reminiscence and self-expression

  • Enjoyable, achievable activities (music, sensory items, creative tasks, gentle stimulation)

  • Physical activities and games adapted to their abilities (gentle movement, ball games, seated exercises)

Over time, this can help reduce distress, ease boredom or loneliness, and support emotional and physical well-being.
